Corey Michael Smithson is a mixed-media artist who works in several disciplines which include: Painting, drawing, film/video, animation, printmaking, collage, drag, installation, and text. He holds a BFA in Painting from the Memphis College of Art, an MFA in Interrelated Media from the Massachusetts College of Art and was recently the recipient of a MacDowell Fellowship for Fiction. He has traveled extensively in his search for moments of beauty, and often shares his discoveries through online essays and photographs. Corey has come to St. Augustine to participate in the First Coast’s rich arts community, and to work on a long-term collaborative project. His exhibition at The Art Studio & Gallery of St. Augustine Beach will include paintings, drawings, and photographs from his many adventures in backpacking across India, chasing thunderstorms across the Midwest, attending Mardi Gras in New Orleans, exploring New York City and Puerto Rico, and roaming the wild spaces of America.
