Memories shape our lives, leaving a complex range of emotions. For Janal, art is a vital vessel for navigating these landscapes. During her teen years in Rural Southern Ontario, she first turned to the canvas after a tragic loss, finding a profound way to voice the unspoken. This skill has helped her navigate life's ups and downs, including a life-altering injury that made every day a new challenge. Her focus shifted entirely to the complex, progressive path of defining and channeling pain again.
Since moving to Saint Augustine, Florida, in 2013 with her husband and son, she started fresh, drawing vibrant inspiration from the surrounding ocean, flora, and fauna. She immersed herself in progressive classes - starting with photography, then abstraction in acrylic and mixed media, plein air painting, returning to oil painting again, and figure drawing in charcoal. Her work today is a rich culmination of over 30 years of creative experience.

Janal stated "My art reflects my life - I use the interplay of light and dark layers, revealing and redefining; in painting, as in life, you need light to define the darkness.
Navigating these opposing forces on canvas helps me find the nucleus or gem. Art is my therapy, the way I process life's inevitable ups and downs. Life isn't always perfect or fantastical, but there is profound beauty in its duality. By sharing this journey through my work, I'm inviting you to contemplate, and peer into the layers to discover, and ultimately find the story"
